Do electric cars pay ISV in Portugal?

No. Fully electric vehicles (BEV) are exempt from ISV in Portugal. When importing, you only pay for transport and registration — which we handle for you.

Is it worth importing an electric car?

Yes, in many cases: besides the ISV exemption, the supply of used EVs in Europe (especially France and the Netherlands) is larger and cheaper than in Portugal.

And plug-in hybrids, are they exempt too?

They're not exempt, but eligible plug-in hybrids (range ≥ 50 km and low emissions) pay only 25% of the ISV. Conventional hybrids pay the standard ISV.

Which countries are best to import an electric car from?

France and the Netherlands have some of the largest supplies of used EVs in Europe, with good prices and well-kept cars.

Is a used car's battery a problem?

We check the battery's state of health (SOH) and history before purchase. The manufacturer's battery warranty is usually long (often 8 years).
