Registering an imported car step by step

Registering a car brought from the EU follows a defined process. See each stage — and remember that, in a turnkey service, we handle all of this for you.

1. Certificate of conformity (COC)

A manufacturer's document certifying the vehicle's technical characteristics. It's essential for the process, and we obtain it for you when needed.

2. Inspection (IPO) for import

The car is inspected at a centre in Portugal to verify conformity and condition. Small adjustments may be needed (for example, headlights).

3. Paying the ISV

Based on the Customs Vehicle Declaration, the ISV is assessed and paid. The amount depends on displacement, CO₂ and age — estimate it in the calculator. Electrics exempt.

4. Licence plate and registration

Assignment of the Portuguese licence plate and registration at the Registry / IMT. At the end, you receive the Single Vehicle Document (DUA).

How long does it take?

The whole process, including transport, usually takes 15 to 20 days. We provide full support and deliver the car ready to drive and legally on the road.
